Here’s the scenario: My VAIO desktop currently WIRED with my DSL modem My Dell currently using wireless internet through my VAIO … But … My HP laptop cannot detect my VAIO network via wireless My VAIO cannot “share” internet connection (it doesn’t have that option) Something wrong here? If I want to set up a home wireless network, what do I need to do (I want my VAIO to be my main)? Please be very specific as possible Like I says, my Vaio doesn’t have Wireless Connection option, it only have Local Connection I suppose my Vaio desk will need a wireless adapter too right?
Answer:
Here is a picture of a mix WLAN(wired and wireless) http://img188.imageshack.us/img188/6982/home20lan20sample.jpg The internet comes into the house (either by phone line, DSL or by cable) and that line connects to a DSL or Cable Modem (provided by your ISP provider) then you connect the modem to a wireless router (the router also has jacks to plug in cat5 cables to run to the computers that you are going to wired in. Then the computers that will be accessing the WLAN wirelessly will each need a wireless adapters (most new laptops come with a wireless adapter built in). Now depending on what type of wireless adapter your existing laptop has (802.11b, 802.11g, 802.11n) your router should be at least as fast as that, you will then need a wireless adapter for any computer you don’t want to wire in and if you are buying new adapters and you want the fastest wireless network that would be 802.11n. Your router and new wireless adapters should match (802.11n) if your laptop is b or g check to see that the router is backwards computable to b or g. Any computer that is wired in will have the fastest internet and file sharing speeds and if only one computer is wired it should be the one you use the most.
