I heard that you cannot install 2 AVs (esp. 2 AVs with real-time protection). But how about Anti-spawares?
Answer:
It’s generally not a good idea either (conflicts and a decrease in system performance may occur here also) – of course, it all depends on the method of real-time protection used. What two anti-spyware programs are we talking here? Keep in mind that anti-virus software generally has it’s own anti-spyware built-in these days; by installing a stand-alone anti-spyware program with real-time protection, you already have two sets of anti-spyware running — I don’t recommend installing a third set. EDIT: Programs like ThreatFire (free) and SpywareBlaster (free) are good choices to add a little extra protection. Both are designed to run alongside your AV/AS and shouldn’t cause any conflicts. ThreatFire shouldn’t have an impact on system resources and SpywareBlaster won’t have an impact. Of course, to be on the safe-side, it is also good to have some ‘back-up’. The free versions of Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware and SUPERAntiSpyware are very good for this. Neither include real-time protection but do offer full scan and removal capabilities. Perform periodical scans (say, complete scans once a week) to help ensure nothing has slipped past your r-t shields. As neither include r-t protection, you can install both without any conflict dramas (just don’t scan with both at the same time). http://www.malwarebytes.org/ http://www.superantispyware.com/ If I was to purchase r-t anti-spyware protection, it would be one of these two.
