I don’t want to install Photoshop on my PC, so is there any open source software similar? a simple one is also ok.
Answer:
There are a couple of options available to you. The most prevalent of course is Gimp. Gimp is the “Gnu Image Manipulation Program”. It is open-source and free. It is available at http://www.gimp.org. Although it is not as powerful as Photoshop, Gimp is an amazingly advanced piece of software. Personally, I am still buying and using Photoshop (CS4 at present); but I can see Gimp surpassing Photoshop in time. Adobe would do well to recognize this. There are other programs, too. Paint.net, Pencil, and a few more. I’ll include a few websites below that list several open-source options for Windows computers. One point I would like to make is to look at “Gimp Portable”. If you just want to try it out and see how it does, you can check out the portable version at http://www.portableapps.com. Other good sources of open-source windows applications (graphics apps included) are here: http://osswin.sourceforge.net/ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_open_source_software_packages https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ListOfOpenSourcePrograms http://www.fosswin.com/ Cheers!
