It is able to use a large variety of the today’s memory cards and it is also able to get pics by using a USB port.  The following is a list of all the many memory card types that the frame supports: Secure Digital (SD), xD-picture cards, Compact Flash Card Type I and Type II, Memory Stick Duo, Memory Stick PRO Duo, and Multi-Media Card (MMC).

Other features include Auto Resizing and Auto Rotation, and these two features will always be handy.  Auto Resizing automatically shrinks or magnifies your photos for best display, without loosing the photo’s ratios or attributes.  Auto Orientation, is able to automatically decide if the photos should be in portrait or landscape format!  The use of this feature you are allowed to put up your digital lcd frame horizontally or vertically, but, images are displayed better in landscape.

Additional features include an assortment of viewing modes, a clock and a calendar.  The frame will be around 150 U.S. dollars when it enters the market.

However, there are several things that are missing in this Sony digital picture frame, namely video, audio, and wireless.  While today wireless is common practice, it is very interesting that Sony would release this digital picture frame that doesn’t have wireless support.

The AKAI digital picture frame is constructed utilizing caliber glossy plastic as the frame.  Similarly, the glossiness has also been applied to the 15” screen.  The material body is outstanding, giving this item a great first-impression.

The AKAI digital picture frame comprises of both USB and mini-USB interfaces.  Further, the AKAI digital LCD frame includes JPEG picture format, MPEG1, MPEG2, and MPEG4 video formats, and MP3 audio format.

A disadvantage that might be missed is the absence of Bluetooth and Wi-Fi networking.  Many of the current digital LCD frames are equipped with both of these technologies, which enable you to utilize your PC to transfer your new photographs to the digital picture frame, as well as some other things.  But, this AKAI digital picture frame is better for beginner users who may have a hard time working with the Wi-Fi or the Bluetooth.  If you could, imagine explaining to your grandmother how to utilize Wi-Fi to connect the PC or laptop to the AKAI.

One more shortcoming of the AKAI is the lack of internal memory.  What this means is that you will not be able to put your pics and videos in the digital picture frame itself.  But Alternatively, you must always plug in the memory card to the AKAI frame should you want to show your photographs.  You can also connect your digital camera, which is even worst.  But then again, you can give this AKAI digital picture frame as a gift to your parents or grandparents and stick in a memory card with many pics of the boys and all they have to do is plug in the digital picture frame and relish over the photos.  I gather that this is the idea behind this one AKAI photo frame.
