WoW PvP Secrets: Understanding Honor Points and PvP Tokens

Games Comments Off

Engaging in PvP combat has many benefits. Two of them are Honor Points and PvP Tokens. These work almost as an alternate form of gold, one that you can use only in certain shops but that lets you buy more powerful equipment than you could otherwise get your hands on. You’re smart to learn about these, as getting them is one way to speed your character’s advancement through the levels.

Earning Honor Points

You earn Honor Points by killing characters from the opposing faction (Alliance or Horde). I should say that your character will earn honor as long as you kill characters that are no more than 8 levels below your character. Killing characters that are more than 8 levels below you not only doesn’t give you honor, it is generally considered bad sportsmanship. This means that if you want to gain honor for your kills you need to pick on characters your own size, or at least ones that are within shouting distance of your level.

Once you accumulate enough Honor Points you will be able to use them, along with Battleground Marks of Honor (earned, not surprisingly, for your actions in the battlegrounds), to buy stuff in the Champions’ Hall at Stormwind City or Orgrimmar’s Hall of Legends. The available items range from consumables, to gems and trinkets, even high-end armor and weapons.

Another way to earn Honor Points is to turn in one Mark of Honor from each battleground as part of the Horde’s For Great Honor quest or the Alliance’s Concerted Efforts quest. You can also repeat these quests to generate additional honor.

Earning PvP Tokens

Certain areas of the Outland give you PvP Tokens (the Mark of Honor Hold or Halaa Battle Token for example) as rewards for killing characters from the opposing faction. These are like the Marks of Honor you get when you fight in the battlegrounds, except that only PvP vendors in the region the token comes from will honor them. So if your character had Marks of Honor Hold, for example, Honor Hold PvP vendors would accept them. PvP Tokens are most valuable to you when you are below Level 70, since the gear you can buy with them doesn’t go up past this level.

Now you’ve seen how Honor Points and PvP Tokens can help your character get better gear. And you know where to go to earn them. But there’s so much more to learn if you really want to dominate PvP combat, or even hold your own against more experienced players. Use a Rogue PvP Guide to Dominate in Player Versus Player Combat

Playing a Rogue class character in WoW Player versus Player combat can be amazing fun. Rogues have so many unique skills (like stealth and poisoning), they can take on their foes in ways no other class can. At the same time, all these unique skills can make Rogue PvP combat very complex. In short, playing a Rogue in PvP is an exciting challenge.

When played well, a Rogue is the best DPS (Damage Per Second) dealer in the arena. Not only that, but Rogues have a Hunter’s speed and the melee ability of a Warrior, along with the crowd control ability of a Warlock. If you can learn to use all your Rogue’s abilities well, you can challenge the Druids for domination of the arena.

The key to successfully playing a Rogue in PvP combat is combinations of attacks. By using the right combinations, called Stunlocks, a Rogue can so thoroughly dominate certain character types that they can terminate their target before the poor victim even gets off an attack! But to do this right, you have to learn the combinations to use against each type of enemy, and to be able to complete them properly in combat.

Learning all the ins and outs of Rogue combat is hard. Just getting a solid handle on stunlocks is hard enough, since they require precise timing and detailed positioning. But that’s just the beginning. You can’t forget the use of poisons, dropping combat, and evasion, yet more precision skills that you must master. Getting all this stuff sorted out by yourself isn’t easy. Fortunately for you, others have gone down this road before you, and written down all the important stuff in PvP Guide books. Getting the top Rogue Guide can save you many hours of trial and error as you get your character ready to dominate the arena.

Learn how your Rogue can come to dominate the PvP battlefield and score above a 2200 honor rating in as little as 38 days with the PvP Bible. Visit ThePvPBible.com to discover more about this great Rogue PvP Guide, which includes coverage of Wrath of the Lich King, or order your own copy here.

Rule PvP with a Mage PvP Guide

Playing a Mage class character in WoW Player versus Player combat has a special feel. After all, the ability to use magic is one of the hallmarks of modern fantasy. As a Mage in PvP, your character will live and die by the way they use mana and your knowledge of the strengths and weaknesses of opposing player classes.. So while playing a Mage can be an incredible experience, this class can be very hard to master.

Any good Mage PvP Guide will tell you that to rise to the top of the heap in Mage Player versus Player combat, you have to know your opponent and understand their strengths and weaknesses. This is especially important for Mages, because all you have is your magic and wasting your mana on the wrong tactics likely signs your death warrant. Run out of mana, and you are essentially helpless. The standard tactics that you’ll find for free online, or in low-quality PvP Guides suggests hammering whatever comes your way as hard as possible as early as possible to keep them away.

But there’s much more to playing a Mage than that. Here’s one example of an exception to that general rule. Frost Mages have powerful defenses in their Ice Block and Frost Nova spells. That means they are much more robust than the usual caster, and don’t have to worry about dying the second their opponent gets close to them. That’s just one concept you need to master to dominate the PvP battlefield as a Mage.

Experience has shown that while Mages can be highly effective in PvP, they are among the hardest of all classes to master. With so many ways you can mess up while working out your tactical kinks, a Mage PvP Guide is crucial to turning your Mage into a WoW PvP powerhouse. This kind of knowledge is particularly valuable when you encounter characters like the Warlocks, which sometimes are tweaked specifically for assassinating Mages. And thanks to the Wrath of the Lich King (WOTLK), life has changed for Mages. You absolutely must have a PvP Guide that accounts for these changes to have any hope of rising into the elite.

Even if you do decide to learn the ins and outs of Mage PvP combat yourself, you’ll find that a quality PvP Guide will contain information that you’re unlikely to discover on your own. It will teach you the most important things to know, saving you vast amounts of time and energy you would otherwise spend on trial and error.

Rule PvP Using this Hunter PvP Guide

If you want to be a Hunter in PvP combat, it helps to have the instincts of a hunter. Why? Because you’re going to need to be able to identify your prey and understand how it will respond to your attack. Then you need to use this knowledge to stalk and kill it. You need to understand your own capabilities, your gear, and the tactical situation. Then you need to position yourself and take down the prey before it can take you down. In WoW PvP, it’s much the same, except that your prey is smarter and more cunning than any animal.

However, in Hunter PvP combat, there are issues that no real-world hunter has to deal with. Understanding the optimum time to use your Freezing and Frost Traps and essential crowd control devices is necessary but not enough. You need to know how to manage the space between you and your opponents to cause the most possible DPS damage in each fight. And you must do all this against an intelligent character, rather than a wild animal.

To truly succeed in Hunter PvP combat, you need to understand the behavior of each enemy class and have a strategy for defeating them. It’s particularly important to understand how Druids, Warriors, and Rogues are most likely to approach you. At the same time, you have to have a strategy for countering quick charges into hand-to-hand combat range by Warriors and Rogues.

You can learn much of what you need to win as a Hunter in PvP simply by spending time in the arena. But from my own personal experience, if you try this you can expect to get defeated regularly and be humiliated for a long time. You don’t want to know how many hours I spent at the bottom of the standings in the arena before I finally started getting the hang of it. Once I started reading a Hunter PvP Guide, I was able to make real progress.

Even if you do decide to learn the ins and outs of Hunter PvP combat yourself, you’ll find that a quality PvP Guide will contain strategies and tactics that are not obvious to newer players. In short, a good PvP Guide will save you a big block of time you would otherwise have to spend dying in battle before you become good at PvP combat.
